Designer: Tracy Reese

August 19, 2009

Before the summer comes to end and I have to retrieve my fall clothes from storage under the bed, I wanted to share another of my favorite designers whose colors and patterns make summer really feel like summer and make fall and winter a little more cheerful.

Tracey Reese  is a Parsons School of Design graduate and CFDA Board Member which within the fashion industry gives her great credibility and a sense of stability. Among us fashion enthusiasts, her truly unique, feminine and colorful clothing of high-quality is what draws us to her brand for every occassion.

I really discovered Tracy Reese a few years ago when I began to explore the designer stores in my West Village neighborhood. Tracey’s flagship boutique opened in 2006 and provided another reason to venture down Hudson Street to window shop. Window shopping quickly lead to frequent store visits with lots of time spent in her cozy dressing rooms draped with tapestry-like curtains and built-in benches for your personal belongings or special guests. I can’t think of another designer to even compare her to if you are not familiar with her collections. Each season she presents clothes that make a woman feel pretty and feminine and dressed for any occassion. The designs make you feel like you want to go somewhere when you wear one of her creations, even if it is just a wool cardigan; more than likely that cardigan will have a special detail to make it stand out from the rest that you own in every basic color.

With her 2 line extensions, plenty and frock, the Tracy Reese house can now appeal to an array of shoppers at varying price points and design sensibilities.  The plenty line is a bit more casual with a lot of bold prints. These pieces are great for a night out or to dress up some of the basics you already own in your closet. I especially like the plenty tops and blouses as they tend to come in flowy silk and cozy cotton with eye-catching patterns that will definitely stand out. The frock line is described as occassion dresses that can easily be worn from day to night.

The plenty brand also has a small home collection that consists of a full line of bedding including sheet sets and duvets. Following suit of the plenty clothing, the bedding features bright and fun colors and never a suddle design. These would be great to add to an all white room for a pop of color or to appeal to someone who wants a bedroom to feel playful and alive.
